MASSERIA LOJAZZO.

By bike

Puglia and Pedals.

The Aqueduct Cycle Route passes three kilometres from here. At the Masseria your bike finds a private gravel trail through wild nature, shelter for the night and tools for maintenance.

Riding on the water.

Puglia has few rivers. To quench its thirst, at the start of the twentieth century a pipeline was built that takes water from the springs of Caposele, in Irpinia, carries it over the Apennines and down for five hundred kilometres, all the way to Santa Maria di Leuca. On top of the pipeline runs the road once used by those who watched over it, and that road has become the Aqueduct Cycle Route: a gravel track among olive trees and dry-stone walls, crossing the valleys on the aqueduct bridges. The water literally flows beneath your wheels.
The Cycle Route is perhaps the most poetic road in Puglia, and it passes right nearby.

Location

Balanced between two seas.

From Masseria LoJazzo, in the heart of Puglia, you can ride along narrow roads between dry-stone walls and olive trees, with next to no traffic, to Ostuni, Cisternino, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, and the sea: the Ionian and the Adriatic are roughly equally far.

The private trail

The Home Tour.

Inside the grounds runs a gravel loop of about four kilometres, through the scrub, almond groves and dry-stone walls: it passes by the specchie, and always brings you back home. You ride it or walk it, without ever meeting a car.

Little world

The sprint.

On a stone, somewhere at the masseria, a bunch of miniature cyclists is sprinting for the line. They are among the tiny figures Nicola has hidden here and there.
